11 coal miners die in methane blast

Eleven people died and six were injured after an explosion at the Stepova coal mine in the village of Hluhiv in Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine on March 2.

The blast, which occurred at noon, caused part of a shaft roof to collapse, at a depth of 500 meters below ground. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that all of the miners, including the dead and injured, had been evacuated from the mine.
